CETIN Bulgaria has completed the installation of photovoltaic systems on its data centers

The independent network infrastructure operator CETIN Bulgaria has finished the installation of photovoltaic systems on its data centers (DC) in Sofia and Plovdiv. A system with an expected annual yield of 178.5MWh has been added to the roof of Serdika DC, and a 47.617MWh system now helps power Trakia DC in Plovdiv.

The company's calculations show that on an annual basis, these two PV systems alone will save around 90,000 kg of carbon dioxide, which is a big step towards CETIN’s decarbonization goals.

CETIN Bulgaria is no newcomer to the area of sustainable network operations. Together with its parent company, PPF Group, the network infrastructure provider has embarked on a journey to decarbonize its operations, set science-based targets (SBTi), and follow the „Net Zero Emissions by 2050“ targets set by the European Commission. The company implemented its first solar system back in 2007 as part of an initiative to reduce diesel consumption and the site's carbon footprint. In 2013, as part of a „green“ strategy, three artificial trees were installed on the grounds of Serdika DC in Sofia. A solar system with 15kWp panels and 1200Ah batteries was integrated on them. In 2018, in order to optimize the use of the system at the Serdika DC, the company's headquarter facility also started using energy from this renewable source. Since then, the company has been using 100% of its capacity, which equates to 20MWh of output per year.

Moving closer to carbon neutrality
Earlier this year, CETIN Bulgaria signed a long-term contract with one of its trusted partners, Electrohold, for the purchase of electricity from the largest photovoltaic power plant in Bulgaria – PV Verila.
